Achievements of the RF support on the MSc. training
program
With
the funds the University of Zambia was able to enroll
six students of whom five completed the program and
have gone back to their working establishments.
The
training has facilitated strengthening of linkages
between National Agriculture Research Institutions in
the SADC region, the CG centres and the University of
Zambia as a regional training center.
These
linkages have translated into evolution of research
programs that are in line with national agricultural
development agenda in the various countries in the
region.
With
the support of the grant it was possible to initiate
the review of our training curriculum. Arising from
this review is more focus on the topics such as Crop
improvement for stress environment and Biotechnology.
Initially the training was
supposed to be undertaken by the University of Zambia
and the University of Zimbabwe. However the project
was not implemented at the University of Zimbabwe. The
University of Zambia was able to take over the role
that should have been played by the University of
Zimbabwe and we have currently enrolled ten new
candidates who are undergoing training in Zambia
under the new Grant (2005 FS 026).
