Project Activities

Work
Plan
The
following activities are planned for the present and year 2006:
-
Planting the best performing OPVs and inbred
lines for seed increase in December 2005
-
Harvesting of test crosses in January
-
Evaluating the three-way hybrids in selected
locations during the main cropping season
-
Culturing and making GLS inoculations to
inbred lines in the screen house
-
The best performing OPVs will be evaluated
in several locations. The locations will include Selian, Madiira,
Arusha Foundation Seed Farm, Karatu, Weruweru, Maruku (Bukoba) and
Tumbi (all in intermediate altitude areas) and Mbulu and Lushoto (both
in High altitude areas)
-
Best performing lines from 2005 tested
material will be crossed with selected testers
-
Best performing populations will be
increased and lines will be extracted from them by selfing.

Top crosses will be made between selected
OPVs.
-
20-30 best performing lines will be used to
make synthetics (balanced bulk population)
-
Report writing
It
is hoped that at the end of the third year, potential material for
release and/or near release would have been developed and/or identified.
