Outputs

  • An open pollinated variety Longe 4 was successfully developed and released in 2000. The variety has good attributes like early maturity being the earliest of all varieties in the country taking only 105 days as opposed to 120, high yielding giving 4 t/ha, good levels of resistance to TLB, GLS and MSV.

Impact

  • It is now the most popular open pollinated variety in country and is being produced by all seed companies

  • Because of its good qualities, the variety has been released in neighboring countries, Kenya and Tanzania. Through inter trade, the variety is being grown by some farmers in Rwanda, southern Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.
