Project  Outputs and Activities during 2004

  •  Multiplication of foundation and breeders’ seeds on-station. Read more

  •  Multiplication of seed through a farmer- to -farmer seed loan scheme. Read more

  •  Demonstrations of the available improved bean technologies. Read more

  •  Sensitization and training of farmers and their opinion leaders. Read more

  •  Production of promotional materials. Read more

  •  Selection of root rot and low soil fertility tolerant bean genotypes on individual farmers’ fields in Kabale district, Kitumba sub county. Read more

  •  Participatory variety evaluation and selection at Multilocation sites . Read more 

  •  On-farm variety trials. Read more

  •  Backcrossing programme to incorporate specific resistance to angular leaf spot and bean root rot diseases. Read more

Summary for 2004 activities/outputs

  • In general, about 1,037 farmers including some local opinion leaders were involved in the above activities during 2004. Out of these, 542 received seed under the farmer-to-farmer seed loan scheme, 116 farmers participated in the on-farm and on-station participatory variety evaluation and selection trials. 374 participated in the sensitisation meetings and the trainings at the demonstration fields as well as the field days

  • Farmers’ awareness of the more recently released improved varieties, other than the popular varieties K 132, K131 was created

  • The loan scheme resulted into an initial access as well as increase of seed of the varieties NABE 4 and NABE 12C in the target districts

  •  More information supporting the release of the two genotypes RWR 2075 and RWR 1946, due this year (2005) was also generated

  • 12 bush and 5 climbing beans were selected for further testing.

  •  A number of crosses continued to be generated.
