Roadmap
Following the
recommendations developed, the group unanimously agreed to make a roadmap
whose contents were:

Give the
mandate to the National Cassava Programme, Uganda to develop a draft
document stipulating what the mandate of the network, and the proposed
meeting dates to appraise the document. Mozambique was selected as the
venue where subsequent deliberations will be made. Both cassava
networks, EARRNET and SARRNET should be invited officially to attend
this meeting so that an efficient coordination of the cassava breeding
work in the Eastern and southern African region could be discussed and
elaborated.

To share
and or publicise the recommendations of the Cassava Breeders Network
through Newsletters, mass media, website utilities and management
meeting of appropriate regional networks.

To
encourage National Governments in the Eastern and Southern Africa
sub-region to consider cassava breeding as important in their budgetary
allocation so as to contribute to economic development

To embrace
and integrate appropriate emerging techniques into cassava breeding for
accelerated delivery of technologies and products
-
To support
private-public sector partnerships to realise commercialisation of
arising cassava varieties and products
