Participatory Plant Breeding (PPB) Course

 

About the course. The PPB course was held at KARI Regional Research Center in Kakamega, Kenya from 12 to 15 May 2003. There were 15 participants who came from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

Purpose of course. To develop PPB skills, share experience in PPB, formulation of country-specific work plans associated with research efforts under a special project to develop varieties resistant to Pythium root rots and angular leaf spot.

Course objective. To establish a system (in partner countries) that routinely integrate farmers’ criteria in varietal development and selection scheme so as to increase the probability of acceptance and adoption and also to cut down the period of varietal development. Another training course at PABRA level is planned next year.
