Kenya Plants the First Transgenic Maize in Open Field.  Kenya has become the second African country after South Africa to plant genetically modified maize in a protected open field. The Bt maize is resistant to the maize stem borer and was planted on 27 May 2005 at KARI Kiboko Research Station. These trials are conducted in strict accordance with the terms prescribed by the Kenyan plant health regulatory body KEPHIS and the KARI and National Biosafety Committees. More details are available from http://www.cimmyt.cgiar.org/english/wps/news/2005/may/kenyaTransgenic.htm
