8th African Crop Science Society Conference

First Announcement and Call for Abstracts

 

Theme: Crop research, technology dissemination and adoption to increase food supply, reducing hunger and poverty in Africa.

Date: 27- 31 October 2007- El-Minia, Egypt

Organizers: African Crop Science Society (ACSS) and Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University

Conference Topics and Symposia: The general topics to be covered at the conference include: agronomy, horticulture, crop improvement and physiology, post harvest handling and food sciences, crop protection, rural socio-economics; and agricultural extension and education, agricultural economics, agricultural microbiology, crop genetics and biotechnology, agricultural chemistry, integration of livestock in crop production, soils and agricultural engineering sciences, water sciences, environmental sciences, biodiversity and natural resources management. Special symposia can be arranged in consultation with the secretariat.

Conference Language: English is the official language of the conference. No simultaneous translation service will be provided. All presentations, including discussions and submitted materials, must be in English.

Venue: Suzann Mubarak Center for Arts and Letters, Minia University Camps, El-Minia, Egypt.

Registration Fees: Participant (present paper) US$180, participant (auditor) and accompanying person (each) US$100. For Egyptians: participant (present paper) LE700, participant (auditor) and accompanying person (each) LE500. The deadline for registration fees payment is 30 April 2007 and additional US$20 (LE100 for Egyptians) will be added in case of fees payment delay. The registration fees cover the admission to all conference sessions, admission to the exhibition, all conference documents, program and abstract book, proceedings book of the conference (CD only for auditor), an opening dinner, daily tea breaks, lunches, cultural shows and the closing gala dinner, sightseeing tour in El-Minia city, local transportation. A mid-conference excursion will be arranged at a fee.

Instructions for Abstract submitted: Abstract should be in English and not exceed 250 words written in MS Word or a compatible format. State the name(s) of author(s) [the name of presenting author should be underlined], institute, city, country and email address (if any). The abstract (original plus 2 copies) or via e-mail as attached file (Fax message not acceptable) should be sent no later than February 28, 2007 to registration office: Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University, El-Minia, Egypt, ET-61517, 8th African Crop Science Society Conference.

Application and payment:  Please fill out registration form and sent it to registration office of the conference. All payment must be in US$ (For non-Egyptians) and in LE (For Egyptians). Bank drafts, money orders or cash money must be payable to the 8th African Crop Science Society Conference, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University, El-Minia, Egypt. Personal cheeks will not be accepted. The name of the registrant should be indicated on the bank draft or money order. You will receive confirmation of registration.

Accommodations: Minia University Guesthouse and other hotels in El-Minia City will be available for participants. The rate of accommodation costs will be included with the second announcement.
